The Bug Files - Documenting the Itchy Side of Green School

This is an Entomology Course with a mission: To document the local bug species and recognize the critical roles they play in the local ecosystem. Using Moodle's Database Tool and some smart phones, students were able to document a variety of bugs living in the area. Weekly conversations discussed much more about insects, and served as a basis for Entomology.

I taught this course as a 6 week unit, with each week being a different piece of the puzzle. The course itself revolved around discussion, followed by time to work on building out our insect Database and revealing more about insects. The course can work as a flipped class as there are ample resources to learn before coming in and having the discussion.

Travel and Tourism LearnNet

Travel and Tourism LearnNet - A course focussed for students in Junior High (Grade 7, 8, and 9). "Traveling is part fun and part work! In order to have a great time you need to do a lot of planning. You have all the same basic needs when you travel that you do at home. You need to eat, sleep somewhere, and get around. There are a lot of details just GETTING to your destination. Will you take an airplane or drive? Do they use the same money as you do? Are there any diseases you need to be extra cautious of? Do you have a place to stay? Do you speak the language?"

This  is a "starter" course to introduce different types of sport to students. The idea would be to include a topic section per sport with glossaries, databases , assignments etc to encourage collaboration and evaluation. A couple of sample entries are included in the glossary and database in the course and there is also a sample rubric in the first assignment. The course was originally created for the Mount Orange School demo site.
